Balancing Compliance and Cost in Compact Wastewater Treatment: RB Remote I/O Manages Both Water Quality and Equipment

December 3, 2024

For small and medium-sized wastewater treatment units, the key challenge is meeting discharge standards while keeping investment and operating costs under control. Too few monitoring points make it hard to detect water-quality fluctuations; too many can increase system complexity and maintenance effort.

In one project, a wastewater treatment machine adopted RB remote I/O, using 2×RB-1110, 4×16DI, 4×16DO and 2×AIto monitor flow, level, pH and dissolved oxygen, and to control pumps, mixers, filters and dosing equipment.

  • Analog modules read flowmeters and water-quality sensors, providing the basis for “how much goes in, and whether the effluent meets standards”;

  • Digital I/O controls pump start/stop, mixer operation and valves, adapting process timing and dosing to real-time measurements.

With RB remote I/O, the equipment supplier can:

  • Cover key control points with a limited number of I/O channels;

  • Maintain a simple electrical structure while reserving capacity for future expansion;

  • Build a foundation for remote service and early-warning functions, supporting service-oriented business models.

As a result, this type of compact wastewater treatment unit can respond more confidently to regulatory requirements without driving up system complexity and cost.
